Add a Complainant to a Process

The act of adding a Complainant to a process is identical for Warrants, Summons, Orders and Orders based on Citations. A search of Master Person is first required. If this search does not return the Complainant, then NCAWARE will allow the user to add a Person record for the Complainant.

Before you start:

  • LEO users can easily add themselves as the Complainant. See Add Myself as a LEO Complainant.

  • A process requires a Complainant be added or assigned before the process can have a status of Complete.

  • The system will allow one primary Complainant for each process. Additional Complainants can be added on the WITNESS tab.

  • The primary Complainant cannot be a Witness on the same process.

  • Summons and Warrants can have either a Business, Person or a LEO as the Complainant.

  • Citations and Orders only allow a LEO as the Complainant.

  • When adding a Subpoena for a Business Complainant, the Subpoena will be generated on the Contact name.

  1. Select the COMPLAINANT tab from the process being added.

  2. The COMPLAINANT tab displays. If applicable, select the Participant Type of the Complainant (Person, Business, or LEO) from the Add Complainant dropdown. Otherwise, skip to Step #3.

  3. Once the Participant Type is selected, click the Add Complainant button.

  4. A SEARCH screen based on your selection displays. Enter search criteria and click the Search button. For more Help on these searches, see Search for a Person, LEO, or Business.

  5. Based on your selected Participant Type, the related SEARCH RESULTS screen will display with a list of record(s) that match the search criteria.

    1. If one of the returned names matches the Complainant, continue to Step #6. (The Complainant can also be edited at this point. See Edit Person Details, Edit LEO Details, Edit Business Details for Help.)

    2. If none of the returned names matches the Complainant, click here for help on Adding a Person, Adding a Business, or Adding a LEO to the database. Once the new Person, Business, or LEO record is added, click the Select as Complainant button. Skip to Step #7.

  6. From the SEARCH RESULTS screen, select the radio button of the record that matches the Complainant and click the Select button.

  1. The COMPLAINANT ASSIGNMENT screen displays defaulted to a Complainant Type of State. Perform any of the following actions:

Subpoenas

Appear and Testify before the court,  Appear and Testify at deposition,  Appear and Produce, Additional notes regarding when to appear,  Other Instructions,  Print County Specific Instructions

Note: If the Complainant is a Business and does not contain a Contact Name, the BUSINESS DETAIL screen will display. Enter the required Contact Name and click the Edit button. The complainant ASSIGNMENT screen will then display.

  1. After completing actions in the COMPLAINANT ASSIGNMENT screen, click the Add button.
