Add a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO)

In NCAWARE, Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs) are added to the database by users for selection as participants on initiating processes, or in other capacities.

LEO records and related functions are accessible from the MAIN MENU, or from the Complainant, Witness and other screens. Below are the steps to add a LEO to the NCAWARE database in any circumstance:

Before you start:

  • LEO users can easily add themselves as the Complainant on a process. See Add Myself as a LEO Complainant.

  • LEO users can easily add themselves as the Witness on a process. See Add Myself as a LEO Witness.

  • NCAWARE will require a search of the database before allowing a LEO add. This requirement will reduce duplicate entries.

  • The Last Name, First Name, and Middle Name fields of the LEO SEARCH screen utilize Soundex search functions.  All other fields will search by exact match.

    1. After a LEO search from the MAIN MENU, COMPLAINANT or WITNESS tabs, or other screens, the LEO SEARCH RESULTS screen will display.  If the search is unsuccessful, click the Add button.

    2. The LEO DETAILS screen will display. Here are the available fields:

Once completed entering LEO details, click the Add button.

    1. Based on the LEO information that was entered, NCAWARE will perform a search of previously entered LEOs.

      • If a match is found, the system will display a message: "Warning: LEO Already Exists". At this point, an add of the LEO will be disallowed. Use of the Select as ...  button will place the found LEO on the process.

      • If no match is found, the LEO DETAILS screen refreshes with the LEO data that was entered. The LEO is now added to the NCAWARE database.  If you are adding the LEO as a participant or in other capacities,  click the Select as ...  button to place the added LEO onto the process

Note:  In either of the above scenarios the LEO record can be edited from the displayed screen.
