Edit a Defendant on a Process

Once a Defendant is added to a process, under certain conditions it is possible to subsequently edit certain Defendant information or assignment data. Below are the steps to edit the Defendant information.

Before you start:

  • The ability to edit a Defendant is based on the type and status of the process being edited and the user's role. If an edit is disallowed due to these conditions, the Edit Defendant button will not display or an error message will display upon use of the button.

  • Defendants on Warrants and Summons cannot be edited once the status has changed to Served.

  • Defendants on Orders and Citations can be edited before, and up to 8 hours after, the status has changed to Served.

  • The information available for edits and the results of any edits are particularly affected by whether or not a process has been issued. Details on this subject below.
