Edit a Defendant Assignment on a Process

Once a Defendant is added to a process, under certain circumstances it is possible to subsequently edit the Defendant information or assignment data. Below are the steps to edit the assignment data.

Before you start:

  • The ability to edit Defendant data is based on the type and status of the process being edited and the user's role. If an edit is disallowed due to these conditions, the Edit Defendant Assignment button will not display or an error message will display upon use of the button.

  • Defendant assignment data on Warrants and Summons cannot be edited once the status has changed to Served.

  • Defendant assignment data on Orders and (Orders based on) Citations can be edited before, and up to 8 hours after, the status has changed to Served.

    1. Search for and retrieve the process on which the Defendant Assignment data is to be edited.

    2. The PROCESS TAB VIEW of the process displays, defaulted to the SUMMARY tab.

Note: If the process status is Unserved or Served, the CASE SUMMARY TAB VIEW will display instead, defaulting to the ORIGINAL PROCESS tab. Click the View Process button from this tab. The PROCESS TAB VIEW of the process will then display, defaulted to the SUMMARY tab.

    1. From the displayed process, click the DEFENDANT tab.

    2. The DEFENDANT tab displays. Click the Edit Defendant Assignment button.

    3. The DEFENDANT ASSIGNMENT screen displays with previously entered data. These are the available edit options:

After completing the edits, click the Edit button.
