Edit a Person Name

The NAMES tab of the PERSON TAB VIEW is where various Names associated with a Person record are stored. Below are the steps to edit a Name on a Person record.

Before you start:

  • Only the user (or proxy thereof) who originally added the Name, their LDA, or a Clerk can edit a Name. Any user can add a new Name and select it as a new True Name.

  • If True Name is edited, then the Save Old True Name As dropdown is required. The edited name becomes the new True Name and the old Name is retained.

  • If a Name is edited to contain the identical Last Name, First Name, Middle Name/Initial and Suffix of another Name on the Person record of any Type, then the edit will be disallowed.


    1. A Person Search is initiated from the MAIN MENU or a process.

    2. From the SEARCH RESULTS screen, select the radio button of the Person record to be edited and click the Edit button.

    3. The Person record, comprised of multiple tabs, displays. Click the NAMES tab.

    4. The NAMES tab displays listing all Names associated with the Person record. Select the radio button of the Name to be edited and click the Edit Name button.

    5. The PERSON NAME DETAILS screen displays with the previously entered information. Here are the available fields:

 Perform the edits, then click the Edit button.

The NAMES tab returns with the edited Name listed.
